Why the 2026 Nissan Leaf Turned Heads at U.S. News & World Report

If you’ve been watching gasoline prices go up, and up and UP, and wondering what you could do, maybe this is the moment to think about going all-electric. Our 2026 Nissan Leaf just nailed down a huge accolade: U.S. News & World Report’s “2026 Best Subcompact Electric SUV.”

The automotive experts at this consumer review organization pulled together its data and impressions of price, efficiency, range, comfort and combined them with what automotive journalists had to say about the Leaf and its competitors to make their award. On a scale of one to 10, the 2026 Nissan Leaf earned an overall rating of 8.6.

Range and Features at a Great Price

“The Leaf offers a great balance of range and features, at a price that’s within the reach of many SUV buyers,” said U.S. News’s Senior Editor for Vehicle Testing, John Vincent. Here are some of the high points:

  • Completely redesigned for 2026. In its third generation the Leaf is now a small electric crossover with a dynamic shape that’s aerodynamic and features clean lines.
  • Three trims: S+ FWD, SV+ FWD and Platinum+ FWD. Starting price on the S+ is a skosh under $30,000.
  • Powered by a single electric 214-hp motor using a 75kWh, liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. Four drive modes: Standard, Eco, Sport and Personal. Regenerative braking.
  • Economy is impressive at an estimated 131 MPGe city/111 MPGe highway/121 MPGe combined for the S+.
  • Outstanding range of up to 303 on a single charge (S+).
  • Charging time from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes using a fast-charger; able to use the Tesla Supercharger network without an adapter and also the CCS-equipped fast-charging stations using an adapter.
  • The Nissan Leaf seats five. The redesign offers a flat floor with 55.5 cf of cargo space with folded rear seats.
  • Two infotainment possibilities: Dual 12.3” screens and a four-speaker audio system (S+). Dual 14.3” screens and six and 10-speaker sound, respectively on SV+ and Platinum+. All have NissanConnect®, wireless Apple CarPLay® and Android Auto™.
  • Impressive safety and driver assistance equipment. Nissan ProPilot Assist hands-on driving offers adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping that provides a front, side and rear buffer zone. It includes Speed Adjust by Route to deal with tight curves and off-ramps, and camera-enabled assistance to navigate any driving situation.
  • Available high-tech features on some trims including a dimming panoramic roof, TailorFit® seating and customizable multi-color lighting and noise reducing glass.

With the impressive leaps in range, performance and charging time, electric vehicles have become a desirable transportation option. Throw in the 2026 Leaf’s good looks and other great features, and you’ve got one great vehicle. Is it right for your family? Visit us and take a drive to see.
